◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Max isn't a hacker, but she sort of has a sixth sense. She's able to see a deer which has no physical form and doesn't show up in pictures that is hinted to be the spirit of Rachel Amber, hinting that she has some manner of sixth sense.
◎ Personality:
To understand Max, one must understand both when and where she comes from — that is, the modern day American West Coast. A teenage girl still growing in a world of hashtags and microblogging, she is trying to find her place in an ever-changing society as most girls her age are. A self-described 'nerd', she grew up doodling anime characters and enjoying sci-fi classics like Bladerunner with her best friend, Chloe. Even as a child, she had an ingrown sense of nostalgia, even for things she never actually experienced — from a young age, she knew she wanted to be a photographer, and always gravitated to the more antiquated analog camera even though digital cameras had long replaced them.
When she was thirteen, she moved from the quiet, coastal town of Arcadia Bay, Oregon to the illustrious and artistic hub that is Seattle, Washington, where she lived until she was 18 — when she was accepted into the prestigious senior-only arts school of Blackwell Academy for photography. Once again leaving behind her previous life, her journal gives hints to her thoughts — she is excited to be in such a well-regarded photography program, and also to meet one of her modern photography idols slash crushes Mark Jefferson, who teaches at the school, and expresses her urge to remain both anonymous and reinvent herself at Blackwell. She notes that the only person she knows is Chloe, so she can get a tattoo or funky haircut and no one would bat an eyelash. She cites that she "just wants things to be different at Blackwell", showing a typical teenage ennui for her monotonous daily life.
